The history of Dev Kamrunag is associated with the Mahabharata period. Kamrunag is located at an altitude of 3,334 meters (10938 ft.).

Apart from Lake Kamrunag, it is also known for its temple. This wonderful lake is also built by the Pandavas.

Dev Kamrunag Temple is located in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. The sanctuary of Kamrunag is arranged at the highest point of mountain edge of Kamru valley, there is a curved molded lake which is known as Kamrunag lake.


Lake and sanctuary are encircled by pine trees. Kamrunag offers all-encompassing perspectives on Himalayan ranges explicitly Dhauladhar, Pir-panjal ranges, and a perspective on Balh valley.

The stone idol of Dev Kamrunag is ancient who has been worshiped for many years. 


HISTORY


Legend has it that in the Mahabharata period, the great warrior Ratan Yaksha is the only god Kamrunag.

 He was going to join the war on behalf of the Kauravas in the war of Mahabharata.

Shri Krishna had demanded his head from Kamrunag. Dev Kamrunag wanted to see the war of Mahabharata according to his wish.

There is a treasure of billions in the lake but no one can remove it. People offer gold and silver when the vow is over here.

This tradition is very old and has been going on since Pandavas' time. It is said that when Pandava Dev came to meet Kamrunag, he also offered gold and silver ornaments in this lake.

BY TRAIN - Nearest Rail Line at Joginder Nagar railway station

BY AIR - Nearest airport is at Bhuntar ( H.P.)

Kamrunag Temple is Accessible by road 


First route


Sundernagar- Dadour-Chail chowk -Rohanda


After that Rohanda to Kamrunag is about 6 km 

Steep Trek (1-4 hours)


Rohanda is 55 km from Mandi

                      35 km from Sundernagar


2nd Route


Via Saroa (Jalpa Mata)


  • Dadour to Chail Chowk by Bus, Taxi, or personal car -14 KM.
  • Chail Chowk to Saroa (Jalpa Mata) -16 KM   
  • Saroa (Jalpa Mata) to Kamrunag Trekking 2 to 4 hrs.


3rd Route


     Via Dhangiara, Jahal


  •  Chail Chowk to Shalla  by Bus, Car or Taxi 8 KM 
  •  Shalla to Kamrunag by Road Also and Trekking also 3 to 4 hrs.


Best Time to Visit - summer April- June

Difficulty Level - Easy 

Weather-  chilly winds in winter and Snowfall

                     Cool in Summer


Trek During Winters

 During peak snowfall season Trekking is difficult to Kamrunag and roads get also closed in case of heavy snowfall. 
If u want to visit kamrunag during winters you should take proper information from the relevant sources to know whether road or Trekking is open or not and if u are visiting then prepare yourself with all the essential amenities to survive.



KAMRUNAG LAKE SECRETS AND STORIES


The treasure lying in the lake is ensured by Kamrunag god himself. It is said that once a man attempted to take the treasure from the lake. 

For this, he attempted to deplete all the water by puncturing the mouth of the lake. It is said that he lost his life in this exertion. 

Likewise once a thief endeavored to take the treasure from the lake. He was later caught. It is said that after this occurrence his eyes were harmed. 

It is likewise a fanciful conviction that the fortune lying in the lake is the property of the Pandavas. Which he committed to the Divine force of  Kamrunag.


How old is Kamrunag temple and where it is located?

Kamrunag temple is an Ancient temple of Mahabharata times so one can't exactly tell how old it is. Temple was renovated in 1963-64 according to Temple priests.

It is located in Rohanda in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. 

When Kamrunag temple is opened?


Kamrunag temple is opened all the year expect in winters when  due to Heavy snowfall roads get blocked.

In summers April -July
