Season First Snowfall in Manali Himachal Pradesh

Introduction

Winter has arrived in Manali with its first snowfall. The mountainous area has seen several snowfalls over the years. This year it seems that Manali has witnessed its first snowfall. There are several places where you can witness the first snowfall including Atal Tunnel and Lahaul Spiti.

Manali is a popular tourist destination in the Himalayas of India. The nearest airport to Manali is Bhunter Airport at Kullu, which has flights from Delhi that take approximately one hour to reach their destination.

I will be talking about how the day started and what I did during the day.

The day started with an early breakfast and a warm cup of tea. The hotel was very hospitable, so they prepared our breakfast and served it to us on their own plates. I had a simple breakfast of bread, butter, and jam for my morning meal. Then we all headed to the car for a long drive to Rohtang pass. The roads were closed due to heavy snowfall at night so it was going to be a slow ride. I sat on the bass seat, with my feet wrapped in warm shawls since the heater was not working at its optimum level. After driving for over two hours we reached Rohtang pass.

We reached there at around 9 am where there was already snow on top of the mountain range. The first thing I saw after stepping out of the car was white snow on both sides of me. The snow was falling from the sky, there were no clouds in the sky and it was a clear day! After this incredible experience, I could see the mountains clearly; they looked so beautiful with snowy tops covered with white flakes.

The weather was pretty good during our trip up, but it started raining when we were at about 1kms from the top point of viewpoint (where you can just see your breath). After that, it cleared up again quickly though so no worries about getting wet!

Conclusion

It was a beautiful day to be out in the snow. The sun was shining, the weather was perfect and we were all happy to be there. I had heard that it snowed heavily last night and that there were no signs of thawing up anytime soon. So it didn’t surprise me when we got here and saw white flakes falling from the sky as we walked through them toward our destination for lunch.
